Got my new car back from ceramic coating today, couldn’t be happier!
Hope y’all are staying safe! I’m also hoping the weather for Mother’s Day stays nice. I’ve never had a car before with a perfect clean body and paint (Paint isn’t the greatest quality relative to the latest and greatest good stuff, but its also almost a 50 year old car so I’m ecstatic with it!) so I’m super excited and hope to keep this car lookin the way it does!
Anyone else been up to any svendings? This is the first time I’ve ever paid for one, but it was well worth it! Couldn’t risk polishing the black myself and I wanted her to be protected.

What coating did you go with?
Did they give you a detailing kit or package, or simply advice and recommendations on how to maintain it?

The coating is IGL, 2 year. He also did a 6 month coating from same company on the glass, steam cleaned and coated the leather, polished all chrome and metal, tail lights look brand new!
He recommends coming back once every quarter for a maintenance wash that’s pretty affordable said helps sustain the life of the coating , or you get one free if you refer someone who gets a coating. He also gave me a bottle of ceramic replenishing spray for when I do wash it. This car shouldn’t see much rain so hopefully I don’t have to wash it too often.
I’m very excited, and very happy with the results

Hey man hope you’re doing well! Wanted to ask you what you would recommend as a diy clay bar and ceramic coating? Wanted to do it myself on my old 1995 530. I have a da buffer as well.
Thanks for any advice!

Hi mate.
I’m not much into claying with a clay bar. When I’ve done any claying it’s been done with a clay block or mitt because if you drop a piece of clay it has to go in the bin, where as a block, mitt or towel will do about a dozen cars and if dropped car be rinsed and re-used.
Have a feel of the paint, is it rough to the touch if you run the pads of your fingers across it or is it raspy if you run the back of your fingers across it.
Because any claying be it from a clay bar, block, mitt or towel can inflict heavy micromarring of the paint. See what you can remove with tar and fallout removers and degreaser first. Even using warm to hot water in a bucket (not too hot it’ll scald you, but bearable) with some shampoo will remove more than just cold or lukewarm water.
If you need to clay bar, get a soft and a medium, see how far you get with the soft one first, as with any car cleaning, start off with the most gentle way possible an work up, if you charge in, you’ll inflict damage and give yourself much more to do in the long run.
Also use a small bucket of warm water with the clay bar as it’ll make it more soft and malleable if you can, use two pieces, leaving one in the bucket to warm while using the other.
When it comes to ceramic coatings I’ve always suggested Gtechniq C1. It’s pretty much the industry standard, you can use CSL (Crystal Serum Light) in place of C1, but with either, top with EXOv4 then use Gtechniq C2v3/CarPro Reload/ Gyeon Cure/ etc... for drying aids or top up protection.
The thing I will say on any ceramic coat is, preparation. The old say, ‘proper preparation prevents piss poor performance’. Don’t do anything until you’ve read and understood the requirements. If necessary try first on an old panel just so as to get it right in your head what to do.
Gtechniq C1 and EXO
CSL Crystal Serum Light.
a yarn about Gtechniq

Awesome thank you so much for the write up. Watched the videos, CSL looks like it’s probably the way to go for me. Need to get some touch up paint and hit a few chips first

No worries. I’m very boring when it comes to car stuff and can go on and on and so never know if I’ve said too much and the person reading has got bored and fell asleep or not said enough and left too many questions or added more unanswered questions.
It’s best to get the paint in as best condition you can or that you are happy with, because any correction at a later date will need reapplication of the coating.
